Sukumar is one of Tollywood's top directors and is immensely popular for his style, personality and approach on and off stage. He is often praised for his unique way of speaking and strong characters.
However, working with him is not always easy. He is known to be a tough boss and often pressures his team and even makes them cry during filming. Sukumar's films are known for delays and frequent changes in the shooting schedule, which can sometimes cause discontent among the crew as scenes and dialogues are often changed. Sukumar's ability to deliver excellent results despite challenges and inconveniences keeps artists and technicians persevering. Producers too tend to bear the brunt of delays, knowing that the final result is worth it.
Many who have worked with him say that Sukumar frequently changes lines and scenes even during shoots. Fahadh Faasil, who played the villain in Pushpa and Pushpa 2, opened up about it in an interview. He revealed that Sukumar had clearly warned him about this weakness before they started working together. Fahadh said that after seeing Rangasthalam, he was so impressed that he immediately agreed to work for Pushpa. However, when he discussed the story with Sukumar, he made it clear that he should not commit to any lines or scenes as last-minute changes could occur on set.
Sukumar assured Fahadh that it was okay to take time to prepare for these changes and even said that he could stop shooting for the day to make adjustments if there were any issues. Fahadh appreciated Sukumar's flexibility and approach and commented that working with a filmmaker who allows such freedom makes the experience easier despite the challenges.
In a surprising revelation, Fahadh also revealed that he had considered making a documentary on rosewood smuggling for Netflix based on the research Sukumar had collected for Pushpa.
