Producers found them easy to work with, and actors often depended on them to make sure they had big hits. Movies copied from Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi films were easily accepted by Telugu audiences for a long time.
But things have changed a lot recently.
The rise of OTT platforms after the pandemic made people watch movies from all languages. Now, audiences watch original films directly, which has made remakes less appealing. Because of this, remakes aren’t doing as well as they used to.
Even popular actors haven’t been able to avoid this change.
In recent years, stars like Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, and Pawan Kalyan acted in a few remakes that didn’t do well at the box office. Now, none of them have remakes planned for their upcoming projects. This shows a clear change in how top actors are choosing their roles.
Interestingly, even actors in the middle range who used to like remakes are moving away from them.
The audience now prefers new stories and is not interested in watching the same plot again, even if they haven’t seen the original.
Industry people believe this is a good development.
With fewer remakes, there is more room for original ideas from writers and directors. It also helps the industry grow creatively instead of just repeating old stories.
As actors and producers start focusing more on original content, Tollywood seems to be moving in a fresh and exciting direction.
If this trend continues, Telugu cinema might become known for telling new and original stories.
