Once upon a time, there were specific slots for every language film industry, with the belief that films only did well in certain times of the year.
November and December were seen as the off-season, especially for Telugu films. But now, with more Pan-India films and less good content, audiences don’t care about seasons anymore. What used to be bad times are now becoming great times.
The first week of December is getting more attention.
With Christmas on December 25 and Sankranthi in January, big Hindi and Telugu films usually waited for those festival times and skipped December. But recent years show that the first week of December has become a perfect time for big Pan-India releases.
In 2023, Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, came out in December and created a lot of discussion over its content.
It did really well at the box office, earning almost 1000 crores, and the Telugu version also did well.
In 2024, Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun and directed by Sukumar, came out and set huge box office records.
The makers say it made over 1500 crores and became a national hit.
In 2025, Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, came out and became the highest-grossing film of Ranveer’s career.
Trade estimates suggest it will make more than 500 crores. With the film doing better in its second weekend, it is expected to beat its first weekend’s numbers.
The next question is: which film will come out in 2026?
Since Animal, Pushpa 2, and Dhurandhar all became career-best films for their stars, everyone is watching for the next big film that will take that slot.
In Telugu, the films aiming for that spot include Fauzi, starring Prabhas and Hanu Raghavapudi, and another film starring Allu Arjun and Atlee, as well as a film starring NTR and Prashanth Neel.
It remains to be seen who will take that window among Indian stars.
