PK’s Remarks on Ticket Hikes Spark Divided Reactions

At the pre-release event for Ustaad Bhagat Singh, actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan made notable remarks on the film industry and the ongoing discussion about rising ticket prices.

Speaking to the audience, Pawan Kalyan expressed his desire for success for all films across different industries and emphasized that he does not discriminate among any film.
He mentioned that whether it's a movie featuring Jr NTR, Mahesh Babu, or Prabhas, he hopes each film finds its success.

He cited the Kannada blockbuster Kantara as an example, stressing that quality cinema, regardless of language or star power, should be supported.
He also noted that even though Telugu films sometimes face criticism in Karnataka, he still supports films like Kantara as they are Indian cinema and deserve encouragement.

Discussing the issue of ticket price hikes, Pawan Kalyan argued that such increases should not be seen as exploitation.
He pointed out that going to the cinema is not a necessity for everyone, as viewers now have alternatives like OTT platforms, including Netflix.

He explained that producers invest significant amounts in making films and often seek higher ticket prices during the opening days or early weeks to recover their costs.

While his comments were appreciated by many in the film industry, some audience members felt slightly offended.
They believe ticket price hikes might be acceptable if they are reasonable, but recent increases have often become unaffordable for the average moviegoer.

Some feel that, as a state’s Deputy Chief Minister, Pawan could have taken a more balanced approach to the issue.
Nonetheless, content often speaks louder than words. If a film truly resonates with the audience, ticket price hikes may not pose a significant problem, as seen with numerous successful films in the past.
