There has been a major problem for Thalapathy Vijay and his team as the full footage of his long delayed farewell film Jana Nayagan has reportedly been leaked online late at night.
This is a big blow and comes after some key scenes were leaked earlier in the day. The team quickly warned people against sharing those scenes, and they were later removed. However, a few hours later, the entire film was leaked online.
It is believed that the full uncensored version of the film was online for a short time before being taken down.
Unfortunately, many people might have already downloaded it since the leaked scenes and links were going viral on social media. A known piracy website has also said it will upload the film only after the theatrical release because of the ongoing political issues linked to Vijay.
Jana Nayagan is Vijay’s farewell film and a lot of money was spent on making it.
The leak of full footage will definitely affect the film’s chances of doing well at the box office since it is now nearly impossible to stop the content from spreading, even with the team threatening strict action.
Though film leaks before release are not new, the fact that the entire content was leaked before the censor process is very shocking.
The team now has no choice but to complete the censor formalities and release the film as soon as possible, even if it means cutting some scenes, since the theatrical and digital rights have already been sold. This situation might cause panic among the buyers.
Pawan Kalyan's Attarintiki Daredi faced a similar problem when a major part of the film was leaked days before its release.
The team then moved the release date to reduce the damage and it turned out to be a big hit. But Jana Nayagan is in a different situation now, as the censor certificate is still pending.
The film was supposed to be released in January this year but has not been able to come out due to legal problems after facing issues with the censor board.
With Tamil Nadu elections around the corner, it is expected that the film will be released only after the polls are over.
Now that the entire footage is leaked, the team can only wait for the censor certificate and release the film right after the elections.
Vijay’s fans were excited to see his final appearance on the big screen despite the long delay. Now, they are shocked and upset with the unexpected leak. Neither Vijay nor his team has made any public reaction so far.
There seems to be very little chance of recovering from this setback.
Many people in the industry think the CBFC needs to consider this situation and speed up the censor process before the elections, so that the film can be released right after the polls end.
While it is not certain if the film can match the success of Attarintiki Daredi, many still believe that as Vijay's farewell film, it has the potential to draw audiences to the theatres one last time to see him on screen.
Directed by H. Vinoth, the political action thriller features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
It is produced by KVN Productions.
