The prequel lived up to the high expectations and started very well at the box office on October 2nd.
It made good money across the country, especially because of the holiday season and the long weekend. The film also received positive reviews and good word of mouth, which helped it do well everywhere.
According to the makers, the film made 500 Crores worldwide in the first week.
It’s expected to do better than the previous film in Kannada, and it already did well in Telugu states and Tamil Nadu, even though there were other films competing with it.
While the Hindi version made good money and kept steady, the overall performance wasn’t as strong as expected.
For South Indian films to reach the 1000 Crore mark, they usually need to do really well in Hindi and overseas markets. Films like Baahubali 2, KGF, Pushpa 2, RRR, and Kalki 2898AD all managed to do that.
However, Kantara Chapter 1 didn’t reach the same level in Hindi and overseas markets as the hype suggested.
Based on the current trends, it seems unlikely that it will hit the 1000 Crore mark. The total earnings are expected to be somewhere between 700 to 800 Crores.
