Tamil Film Industry Erupts Over Gouri Kishan Body-Shaming Controversy

Actress Gouri G Kishan, who is famous for her role in the movie 96, became a topic of discussion recently after a journalist asked an unsuitable question about her weight during a press event for her new film Others in Chennai.

The situation happened when a reporter asked Gouri's co-star, Aditya Madhavan, about lifting her for a scene in the movie.
The same reporter then casually asked about her weight. Gouri immediately objected, saying that such a private question was inappropriate at a professional event. She calmly explained that the comment was an example of body-shaming and showed disrespect towards women in the industry.

As the video of the event went viral on social media, it sparked strong reactions.
Many celebrities and people from the film industry supported Gouri and criticized the journalist's behavior.

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada appreciated Gouri for standing up against the inappropriate comment and called it refreshing to see a young actress speak out against disrespect.
Actor Kavin called her "inspiring," while Khushbu Sundar said such questions show how journalism has become insensitive. She added, "A woman's weight is no one's business. Kudos to Gouri for giving it back."

Actors Richa Chadha, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Jwala Gutta, and filmmaker Pa Ranjith also showed their support for Gouri.
Composer Santhosh Narayanan described the journalist's behavior as "deplorable" and pointed out that such actions reflect deeper issues of misogyny in society.

In response to the controversy, Gouri expressed her disappointment that questions about her role or the film were overshadowed by comments about her body.
She said, "I was the only woman in the room, and I was targeted. It's unfortunate."

The Chennai Press Club later criticized the journalist's behavior and stood by Gouri for standing up against body-shaming.
Others, directed by Abin Hariharan, features Gouri as Dr. Madhumitha, with Aditya Madhavan in the male lead. The film was released on November 7.
