Legendary Director Bharathiraja Passes Away

Indian cinema lost one of its biggest filmmakers today. The legendary Tamil director Bharathiraja passed away at the age of 85 after struggling with health problems for several years. According to sources, the unexpected death of his son Manoj last year hit him very hard emotionally, and his health started to get worse after that.

Bharathiraja made a big change in the way Tamil cinema was made.

When most movies were filmed in studios, he used cameras in real villages and natural places, showing real feelings from rural life on the big screen. His first movie, 16 Vayathinile, with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, was a huge hit in 1977. It was later made into a Telugu version called Padaharella Vayasu.

Another hit was his film Sigappu Rojakkal, which became a big success in Telugu as Erra Gulabilu.

In 1981, Seethakoka Chiluka became a popular musical love story. Even today, the songs by Ilaiyaraaja are still remembered by Telugu moviegoers.

Bharathiraja’s influence was so big that even Chiranjeevi wanted to work with him when he was at his peak.

Their collaboration was in the film Aradhana, produced by Allu Aravind. Although the movie didn’t make as much money as expected, it is still remembered as a special attempt.

Bharathiraja made all kinds of movies, from intense revenge stories to exciting crime thrillers.

Films like Tik Tik Tik, Khaidi Vetta, and Jamadagni showed his special way of telling stories. He also started a new chapter as an actor with the film Yuva directed by Mani Ratnam. His short appearance in Dhanush’s movie “Sir” was very well received.

The Government of India gave him the Padma Shri award in 2004.

Whether as a director, writer, or actor, Bharathiraja left a lasting mark on Indian cinema. His movies, characters, and emotions will continue to inspire people for many years to come.
